Our Bench Mark System is provided to facilitate the identification of City-managed standard benchmarks. Standard benchmarks are for public and private use in establishing vertical and horizontal location within the City of Des Plaines Corporate Limits. This dataset was last updated in January 2016.
Engineering Site Plans
The following Standards for Engineering Site Plans prepared by the City of Des Plaines Public Works and Engineering Department apply to all civil engineering site plans prepared for the purpose of a site Development Permit. This document is intended to supplement City Codes and Ordinances and not supersede same.
Other development requirements include, but are not limited to, the Building Code and amendments, Title 14 of the City Code, the Subdivision Ordinance, the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District Watershed Management Ordinance, and other regulatory agency requirements.
Permits may be required from other agencies having jurisdiction within the City of Des Plaines including, but not limited to, the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District, Illinois Environmental Protection Agency, Illinois Department of Transportation and the Cook County Highway Department.
Standards for Engineering Site Plans
A site plan is a top view, or bird’s eye view of a property that is drawn to scale. A site plan can show property lines, distance between structures and property lines, parking lots, and more. Review the City's Standards for Engineering.

The following details will assist with creating engineering site plans for development within the City of Des Plaines. The Public Works and Engineering Department can answer your questions regarding construction and inspections of public improvements. The City of Des Plaines Engineering Standard Details have been provided in DWG format. You will need a program such as AutoCAD to open the DWG files. All details are included in one drawing. Please feel free to use both detail pages or choose individual blocks as needed.
