IKES TO HOST ANNUAL WILD GAME DINNER FEBRUARY 15th The Des Plaines Chapter of the Izaak Walton League of America is hosting its Annual Wild Game Dinner on Thursday, February 15th, from 6 - 9 pm at its location, 1841 S. River Road in Des Plaines. The event is open to the public. Each year members gather to share their bounty supplemented with additional tasty items and to enjoy good company. It’s an age-old tradition of the club. As membership grows, the Ikes (as the league is affectionately known) like to share their interests in conservation, ecology, and air, water, land and wildlife preservation with others. Tickets are $25 per person and are available for sale online at www.iwla-desplaines.org (look under Events). The Des Plaines Chapter is one of the country’s oldest and has been inviting others to enjoy and conserve nature since its founding in 1926. It has been housed in the historic Jefferson House on River Road since 1929. The Izaak Walton League of America just celebrated its 100th anniversary and is a national organization committed to conservation, preserving fish and wildlife habitats, and clean air and water. Just this year as part of its efforts to reach out to others, the chapter has hosted a Des Plaines Riverbank clean-up with Clean Up - Give Back, a program on bees and beekeeping, and a bird walk, all of which were open to the public. Plans are always in the works for future activities. In addition to its conservation outreach work, the club hosts an annual turkey party, this wild game dinner, a tea and history, and a pig roast. Those interested in learning more about the club’s work are welcome to attend any business meeting, held the first Thursday of each month at 6:30 pm at the club’s meeting place, the historic Jefferson House, at 1841 S. River Road, Des Plaines.
