BEES & BEEKEEPING PRESENTATION AT IZAAK WALTON LEAGUE On Saturday, July 22, from 1 - 3:00 pm, the Des Plaines chapter of the Izaak Walton League of America will host a presentation on Bees and Beekeeping at the historic Jefferson House at 1841 S. River Road in Des Plaines. Jim Hochstein, who keeps bees at the chapter, will present and there will be an opportunity to see the bees and the equipment used. The event is free and open to the public; more information is available on the chapter’s website, www.iwla-desplaines.org. Those attending can register on the website, but drop-ins are welcome as well. “Recognizing the interest in bees, the Des Plaines Chapter of the Izaak Walton League is happy to provide this opportunity,” says Jennifer Conlon who is helping to organize the event and is a member of the League. “I think there is interest in bees from kids to adults, and as a former Girl Scout troop leader and Boy Scout merit badge counselor, I can see possibilities for scouts getting some badgework done, too.” The Izaak Walton League of America, also known as the IWLA or affectionately as the Ikes, has recently celebrated its 100th anniversary. The conservation organization is committed to practical solutions geared toward sustainable use of natural resources. The Des Plaines chapter is one of the nation’s oldest, chartered in 1926 and housed since 1929 in its historic location on River Road.
